What is better, blood or the other stuff?
I think that there is going to be a major conflict between what makes a good game. Gameplay or the graphic quality, mainly of blood. and if violence is what makes a game great. I think that good fun gameplay is more important than how adult it is and how good the graphics are. Post your opinion here! :bmage: I like blood. :wmage: Shut up.

Gameplay makes the game. Graphics are what attract people to the game. So I'm saying gameplay is more important, because even if your game has great graphics, if it plays like shit no one will buy it.

Shouldn't this be in the versus thread? "Gameplay vs. Graphics in an all out slobberknocker!"
Both. Because they just are.

A Good Game is Determined by its GamePlay. Any game can be good as long as it has god gameplay, dispite its graphics (unless the graphics are so bad it deterrs from the gameplay).
The best games use the graphics with the gameplay to their advantage. And the best games are not nesissarily gory or Adult oriented.

Gameplay makes the game, of course.
There's absolutely no contest otherwise. Heck, I don't even give a crap about good graphics. I'll still play Duke3D Shareware games when I'm in the mood. Uh, my actual opinion is that FPS games were cool, but now they're not. There's nothing left to do anymore, so we can quit that. Better graphics and bloodier fights are being utilized to keep the genre alive, but I think we have to face the fact that it's over until somebody thinks of something new to do with them. I think almost all modern games are pretty basically crap. There is gameplay, but no story. No backing. No motivation to keep going. I spend a lot of time reading instead. Sometimes I'll play Starcraft, but that's about it. Games should be more like Starcraft.

Yeah, GamePlay and story is the only thing that counts.
Chrono Trigger is one of the best games. Not much graphics but Great Story. Quote:
in the near future. Blizzard made some of the greatest games, Along with some of Rare's older games. :bmage: agree's with me.

As for old games having stories, besides a couple of RPGs, stories were rare (Ones beyond "Bad guy does something bad, go through many levels to find and kill him"). The "All new games suck because they suck and old games are the bestest" people are the just the reverse version of "All old games suck because they suck and new games are the bestest" people. As for me, I like my games having graphics. If all games were crappy little 2D sprites, that would be very annoying. And many good games need their graphics to be good.

Graphics do enhance things, but you cant make up for poor gameplay with good graphics. however, gameplay can be bogged down if the graphics are so shitty you cant tell what you're doing. so its a fine ballance with maybe a 75% reliance of gameplay, and the rest on graphics (at least in my mind it is).

Usually, you'd have an excellent point. In my case however, I just dislike modern, good graphics. It isn't that I'm rebelling. I mean, I loves Starcraft and Fallout graphics (Which were really good). The problem is that I have a tremendously difficult time playing games with all 3D graphics and such. I can't concentrate on the game, everything is too much about graphical intensity and perfect camera angles, and making sure that the dead bodies twitch right... Nah. I have a hard time playing through all that. I like things cut and dry. Even Warcraft III graphics gave me some trouble. Unnecessary graphical crap would often chip into the actual game experience. All I want is to identify which is a Grunt and which is a Troll. I wish that WCIII graphics were the same as WCII, but it's still playable. I'm really afraid that SCII graphics are going to overwhelm the game, and just make it piss me off. (There will be an SCII) CT had awesome graphics. In FF1, the graphics were pretty good for nes, but not very good in general. SNES graphics were fantastic. Once the Saturn came out, and all the systems like it and after it, graphics started to worsen the gameplay. Games aren't like games, it's trying to mimic real life. But that isn't the point. Bleah. I don't know how to explain myself. I just find that modern graphics make things a whole hell of a lot more difficult. The game should be interesting and difficult. The graphics are supposed to help you play it, not work against you, despite some amount of pixelish beauty. But that's the graphics end. I never said that ALL older games had great storylines. I simply said that modertn games have crappy ones. By default, the only games with good story lines must have come from the past. Thus, they are older games. The fact that some (If not most) older games have poor storylines is absolutely irrelevant. You'll understand what I mean when a good game comes out on the market. (Good and bad games alike will have come before it. The consequence of our timeline.)
