Default What Language Are Your Movies Speaking?

So a few years ago, I found a movie called "Producing Adults," or "Lapsia Ja Aikuisia." Anyways, it's a Finnish movie with an original soundtrack that I don't think was ever released, at least not in Canada. Kinda sucks, 'cause there was a particular song that I loved... but I found and it. Wewt.

Anyways, in my searches, I found a few other good looking films, like The Guitar, with Saffron Burrows. Finn's Girl. And then there's Vier Minuten. It's a German flick about a pianist. A pianist who plays the piano like it's a stringed instrument and a drum.

Anyways, at the sight of good flicks like Lapsia Ja Aikuisia, and good looking flicks like Vier Minuten, I thought it alright to ask about foreign flicks. All we get out here is stuff like The Pianist. Which isn't to say that's a bad film, but.. come on - it's so critically acclaimed, how could we not get it?

To be honest, we here don't often see most of these kind of films either. Hollywood has invaded our movie theaters. I haven't even seen "Lapsia ja Aikuisia".

I could recomend you a film that was supposedly pretty good, it's called Paha Maa (Frozen Land.

EDIT: If were looking for good films in general and not just serious ones, then a swedish film called Kopps is a funny one. There's another one from the same director called "Jalla Jalla".

I pretty much exclusively watch foreign films mostly because all my favourite directors are foreign and I'm going through classic film canon which is like 90% foreign. Though my current city of residence is terrible for playing foreign films, as in we get none. In NZ though we tended to have heaps of foreign film- mostly because we were so isolated it was as easy to play crazy european films as it was hollywood ones.
But not sure how much there is to discuss about it- it like having a discussion for "films in English". You get pretty much the same breadth of films in other languages as you do in English so it such a giant topic there's not much to say.

Default Song is stuck in my head.

I started watching the live action 20th Century Boys movies, which are Japanese. They actually had pretty good production values for Japanese movies, or at least compared with what I've seen of them.

My only real complaint is that they cut out some of my favorite parts from the manga in the second movie and we'll be getting some major changes in the third, but I guess there's no helping that.

Night on Earth is technically an American movie but it takes place in five cities across the world - Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Rome and Helsinki - and every city's scene is filmed in the country's language. Plus some German in the New York scene. I say that counts as foreign enough to fit your bill.

Other than that yeah pretty much any movie I'll watch naturally counts as foreign.

I like how on 'Night on Earth' the passengers in Helsinki are totally drunk. It's pretty realistic, most people use a taxi here only at late hours, usually drunk.

I'm watching El Chavo del Ocho reruns on DVD as a Christmas gift.

The very definition of formulaic, but fuck it I love it.

District B13 was a nice little French action movie that introduced me to parkour. I can't wait for the sequel.
