Revolution!
An (extremely) causual analysis raises three possible futures for this country:
1. Personal freedoms and huge gaps in wealth become so abused by the wealthy and ruling class that the masses revolt lead by militant radicals. Think America's war for independance from Britan, or even the French revolution. There's enough scandal and abuse in our current system to think that this is possible. 2. Reason and genuine concern for all eventually prevails in the politcal and social spectrum, many social problems and hot button debates are resolved or begin to be resolved . This country has established a history of being fairly progressive, so there is certainly some hope that current discontent and friction will ultimatly end in a more perfect union. 3. The ruling class evolves into an elite society whose only goal is to maintain power, controlling the masses through fear, manipulation, and decite. 1984! 1984!!! There is some very scary stuff going on in the world, name of security that makes people wonder just how few steps are left before this is our reality. If you feel like adding further possibilities, that's cool. These are just the 3 sort of iconic or elemental outcomes that occured to me. Discuss. Humorously, if you please.

The revolution will be memed!

To continue the trend of casual analysis, I would say that if #1 were not to happen, then we are surely headed for #3.

I propose that the lower classes create an army of robots to help in their coup of the wealthy elite. We almost have the technology, and with the internet, anyone can learn to program and build stuff. We get help from the small-time hardware stores for large batteries and other mechanical parts. The rich will never know what hit them and won't have time to react with factories of their own. You know, 'cause they'll be dead. Then we build a human and robot Utopia, distributing their wealth among the rest of the populace.

Honestly, the first thought I had after seeing the thread title was The Beatles
I think that it will come down to this in the end.
But I think that there will not be revolution until the gas price goes too high. And then it's too late, when the third option has become real already! :| Last edited by Si Civa; 01-08-2010 at 06:56 PM. |

Seriously no takers on #2? I understand it's not the most morbidly hilarious option but I thought we might have at least one optomistic fool.

As much as I like #2 to happen, a lot of people are going to have to shut the hell up and cool down before we can ever have that happen. People that I personally think are incapable of such things.
