General Manga Thread of Ordinary Discussion
So, while the Big 3 Mangas have been off doing their things I've been quietly delving into the world of NOT NARUTO/BLEACH/ONE PIECE mangas and have been overall pleasantly surprised at the quality of the stories whether they be ridiculous or awesome. Basically this is gonna be me dumping thoughts about various manga then general discussion can commence.
I've been totally addicted to GS Mikami for almost a year now, and the fact that I am almost at the end kinda makes me sad. Ushio and Tora is equally awesome. I want to like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, but about the time they introduce Jotaro the author's art style gets... distracting... to say the least. Also I think Jolyn might have an Adam's Apple. Magic Ban Removal!! Hyde And Closer strokes my fancy the same way One Piece does in it's lighter moment and I love it. Wish I could read ahead. Also, if you like Death Note you should check out Liar Game, they are similar except instead of a shinigami you have a cross dresser. Psyren initially caught me and didn't let me go, I was thinking it was gonna be kinda a Gantz that didn't make me want to slit my own wrists and die crying in a pool of my own blood, then they got super powers... and it got generic-y for a while, but it has been pretty good the last 15 chapters though and has been picking up more steam as you wonder how the future will change next. If they end up at a tournament I will revolt though. The Breaker and Veritas basically are the go to guys for action Manhwa. So you should read them, although Veritas is kinda slow. Record of Fallen Vampire... just dammit... most absurd plot ever. Basically, you have a vampire king searching the world for his sealed wife's location and the organization who are trying to stop him from releasing her... then the aliens get involved. I may add more but that's all lately. Also why did they stop Franken Fran?:gonk:

Archer and Armstrong vs. the World

I'm assuming those are the Big 3 as defined by audience or sales or something, right?
The only one I read every month is FMA, myself. Really getting good and exciting and crazy as it nears the end. Looking into Liar Game.

When I said it's like Death Note be warned I meant its about human psychology and evading other people via misdirection and lies. There is no killing.

Franken Fran is still going. It's just not being translated because there are no one is scanning the comics for the internet currently. The situation is being addressed, though.

One Piece just hit the halfway point.
That was it, right there. That was the middle of the planned story. That's the part that would have come a lot earlier if Oda didn't start having too much fun with his comic.

EDIT: I totally recommend O-parts Hunter a.k.a. 666 Satan. It's only 76 Chapters, but it's pretty well paced. Also Bokke-san, one of my personal fav's. Count Cain and Count Cain - Godchild are excellent as well. ooh, Dragon Quest: Dai no Boken is tottally awesome as well, with 349 chapters, so it is a bit of a read. oh, and all of the Legend of Zelda mangas are awesome. Oh oh! Definitely Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro (so awesome!). oh, and Yu Yu Hakusho and Zatch Bell, they had surprisngly good stuff.

Zatch Bell was awesome, even though you could tell that the author just wanted to get it over with at the end.
Also, holy fucking shit Blackbeard what the fuck. There's so much going on with One Piece! All sorts of shoes are just dropping and hitting a see-saw mechanism which sends other shoes flying! The hell!

I am saddened by everyone's apparent lack of Manga discussion.

So we are clear
|
well speaking of action manwha, I was both happy and upset when I found out there was more Yureka (iD_eNTITY in the US). Upset that, it was obvious they simply weren't gonna publish anymore in the US, and it being done by my favorite author I of course wanted more. But happy that the reason I found out there was more, was someone was doing translations of it. The story is actually getting better, and you start learning more about the apparently random crap that keeps happening.
Another series I decided to try was, History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi, which I thought was generic shonen kung fu story. I was right, but it is done well with lots of interesting and well developed characters. They even found a way to do the "defeat means friendship" trope in a suprisingly realistic way. Most cases the defeat was not the reason for them joining, sometimes its unrelated entirely. One joined their side because their best friend did, and he joined by forming a bond with a completely different character. I also enjoy how, unlike most series the enemies are given a reason for not just bum-rushing the protagonist, and the allies remain legit fighters in their own right. Things are planned well enough that suspension of disbelief isn't broken. This is also the only time I have ever seen tai chi represented as one of the more brutal styles, including shattering someones eardrums, scratching out their eyes, smashing their skull, and snapping their neck. Which is a far cry from most representations of it being a gentle defensive style. They comment in the series about this, that people assume that because few understand that alot of those slow movements are designed to maim your enemies. The manga-ka apparently does alot of study to represent martial arts properly, if exagerated, and it shows. The principles behind them stay the same and you wont see Muay Thai fighter using throws or anything
