Terrible video games that you liked
I know that there are not too many games that would fall into this catagory. I can, however, mention one game that I liked but was not a very good game. Gaurdian's Crusade: It was the first ever game I got for my PSOne, and my friends could best describe it as "trippy". Basically, you are this kid with an annoying farrie who acts as your conscience whenever you try to loot anything. You then come across this baby monster, and a holy bunny appears and tells you that you must take this little monster to the "Tower of God" in order to save the world. Throughout most of the game, you have no idea what is going on, and you get vague hints about where you are supposed to go next. Did I mention the psychic toys that act as your spells, and the fact that the enemies on the maps look like various sized tadpools before the fights begin. This game was basically an RPG for beginners, it had good graphics for its time, but I cannot say that it was a good game. Still, I beat it, enjoyed the madness, and I even helped my sister beat the game. A word of advice, if you make it to the final boss, do not take any kind of mind altering substances, there are just too many swirling colors and other chaotic elements that could potentially adversely affect your brain.
I have told you my terrible game that I liked, now are there any of you that have had similar experiances? I hope that I am not the only one.

I torture my brother and family with Fusion Frenzy 1. Does that count?
Otherwise, I didn't think it was horrid> ChronoTrigger DS. Everyone else seems to think it was though.

The Dynasty Warriors series, started around 3 or 4 and have been hooked since then. I know its a bad game, I know I sit around for hours doing the same 2 or 3 combos on weak couldn't hurt a fly mooks, before doing a slightly different combo on might be a challenge if it wasn't so ridiculously easy to dodge-counter generals. But man I can't quit that game.
This includes the dynasty warriors Gundam games, but those are kind of okay and not completely bad. I remember really waving in and out of liking Pac Man the New Adventures on the SNES back in the day. I never beat the game, but I remember it being really fun when I stopped trying to figure out what the story was or how to beat the game, and just went around seeing what happens when Pac Man tries this when he's pissed off, what about when he's mopey and depressed? I don't think I ever saw all the interactions possible in that game (actually I know this because I never saw a 'you win' screen so I'm missing at least one). I mean actually trying to beat the game was terrible because then I was repeating the same actions I knew worked then getting stumped on what to do next till I died/turned off the game from boredom. |

Beyblade Super Tournament Battle for the GCN.
Even most beyblade fans and Beybladers hated the all holy hell out it. About a few years back I found this game in Game Stop for 2 - 3$. XD Also the Megaman Starforce games with the exception of SF3 which was everything SF1 should have been. Along with... Megaman X4, X5, X6, X7, and X8. Sonic 3D Blast (it had great potential, honest) Sonic Riders 1 and 2 (Zero Gravity) I ain't touching Sonic Riders 3: Free Ride though. and Samurai Legend Musashi (would love to see a 3rd Musashi game get made someday)

I have hotly debated the mertis of Final Fantasy 8 many times. I realize that I am in a very small minority who found the gameplay appealing (as opposed to people (re: 13 year old asian girls) who mainly dug the love story).
No one I personally know seems to like Amplitude or Frequency either but those are actually legit games so I dunno wassup there.

The first Mother game. Excellent story. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL gameplay.
Snake's Revenge: Metal Gear 2. A huge improvement over the first NES Metal Gear, and it at least tried to differentiate itself from its predecessor.

Man, I thought I was the only one here who'd heard of Guardian Crusade. I don't even remember how I got the game, but I loved it a lot. The toy mechanic was cool, I liked that Baby had its' own AI based on how you fed it and plot progression, but the rest of the gameplay and plot fell flat on its' face, which is a sad thing T.T
Anyway, name a game that has Gundam in the title. More likely than not, it was a terrible game. I still loved it, because Gundams negate EVERY problem I could have with a game. Dynasty Warriors is also a very bland series for pretty much the reasons h4x.m4g3 listed. I'll just add that those two-three combos and minor variations you pull off? They're fun to do. It's simple, it's mindless, it's a good way to kill time as long as you know what you're getting into. Dynasty Warriors Gundam 1 was awesome and the only 360 game I've beaten to date (Not to mention that I 1000/1000'd it). Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 was a terrible game that deserved to die in a fire (Seriously, how do you mess up the DW formula THAT bad?) and yet I STILL love the game. Other than that, I'd say Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia. It has a LOT of flaws with the characters' personalities (Everyone is some sort of basic archetype, such that you know which love interest is the one that lets everyone walk all over her and which love interest is the aggressive "I want you in my pants five miutes ago" one before they even SAY A WORD), the battle system (I broke the entire last two-thirds of the game using common drops from enemies because the game doesn't expect you to focus on making one guy the hardest hitting thing EVER), and the plot (Not even gonna TOUCH on some of the absurdities here). Still, the game has some charms that I couldn't help but love, such as the dialogue (This scene, which got linked on VGCats way back when, is a good example) and the 'Diving' (The game's version of sex, though it involves using a whole new port found only in a specific type of woman. It's as ridiculous as it sounds but TOTALLY SERIOUS in the game world. Also, the main character has three women he can dive with at any time without any complainted from the others.) For all it's flaws, I've beat the game three times just to see some of the endings it has. |

Neverwinter Nights 2 would apply here, then? I hear that game taking a lot of flak from a lot of people, yet I still play it more than any other game I own. Though I play on a persistent world server, so that helps out a lot.
