Mods And Modettes
So because I dun have L4D one or two yet, I've been messing around with all the old Half Life titles: Opposing Force, Blue Shift and the original Half Life. It's been pretty nifty - There's been a few hiccups, but I just needed to change the graphics from Software to Direct3d, and it's worked better.
I did have a bit of trouble with the graphics, but there's this mod from Steam (or someone, I don't know) that's available here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_...3157-QDVN-1426 - and it's pretty wonderful. The thing is that Half Life works well on my laptop, and I've been watching Freeman's Mind - and there's great water there. Seriously, click the link. I know it's stupid, but I was hoping to find out whether or not Scott Ross used any mods for it. In my search, I found some people who turned the knob all the way up to 11. Just wondering about that, when it comes out, etc. So, does anyone know any good mods? I hear Oblivion sites are full of them. Last edited by Seil; 05-13-2011 at 11:05 PM. |

Gah! Oh dear!
If you want to play Blue Shift, get Blue Shift: Unlocked, it fixes an annoying but amusing bug.

Good mods.
Let's see. FiniteLiquid for Minecraft: Makes the water and lava physics quite a bit more realistic. Nature Overhaul for Minecraft: Trees and plants can die. They can also spawn new saplings which can be "blown on the wind" and plant themselves. That's just Minecraft. I honestly don't remember any must-have mods I ran with my other games. (other than the obvious ones, like Better Bodies and Better Heads for Elder Scrolls games)

....wait. ... Black Mesa Source is essentially the Half-Life Episode 3 of modding. They've been at it for fucking ever and it's been ages since they released anything concrete. We know that they're still working on it, but nobody's seen anything resembling a progress update in ages because they follow the same pattern of "It's done when it's done, quit asking how long it's taking." |

A few mods I enjoyed that haven't been listed yet:
Median-XL: A massive change in Diablo 2:LoD. All of the skill trees have been completely revamped, along with many new drops and challenges to test youself against. I wouldn't go back to vanila D2 now. Fall From Heaven: This completely changes Civ4 from a game based on historical factions, to one set in a fantasy setting set just after an ice age gripped the world. Quite a few factions have mechanics that cause them to play quite a bit different from the others, and experience is quite a bit more important than in Civ4.
