"Fight Scenes Are Totally Rad" or "A Thread With Some Kick"
So I like action movies. I know that it's not real what when Jet Li can fly, Jason Statham can take on a small army, or Keanu Reeves can act... But it looks really awesome and cool and junk. So here's where we lay tribute. Here's where the awesome shines through: they're not going to be great movies by any means, they're likely not even going to be in our native language... but they are the best fight scenes.
The plot thing kinda bugs me, because while I do like a good plot, and I do like a do-gooder hero... there's not a lot of plot that you can plan around pithy one liners and fight scenes. I like The Transporter and Unleashed, because they have a(n action movie) plot. However, I do think it interesting that we've changed from Jackie Chan, who usually does comedy, or at least plays it comedy - to Jet Li, who did a few good bits that were sort of dark 90's stuff, and now Tony Jaa is breaking (has broken) on to the scene to star in... Ong Bak. And Ong Bak 2. And Ong Bak... 3. And I haven't even mentioned Bruce Lee... whoop there I go. But without further dudes: The One - Jet Li vs. Jet Li Ong Bak - Tony Jaa vs. Dredlock Man The Transporter - Jason Statham vs. A Bunch Of Thugs Unleashed - Jet Li vs. Mobsters (?) Hero - Jet Li vs. Donnie Yen Jet Li vs. French Aryans Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - Ziyi Zhang vs. Michelle Yeoh Cradle 2 The Grave - Gabrielle Union vs. Kelly Hu Kung Fu Hustle - Martial Arts Masters vs. Gang Members Romeo Must Die - Jet Li vs. ...Other Dude The Matrix Whichever - Keanu Reeves vs. Elrond Liu Kang vs. Shang Tsung Ninja Turtles vs. Foot Clan Kill Bill - Uma Thurman vs. Like... 87 People. The Forbidden Kingdom - Jet Li vs. Jackie Chan While I do want to list stuff from V For Vendetta, that's not a fight scene what with fists and stuff. It's more like a fight scene what with knives and junk. Also, we should only list bare fist fight scenes. I guess we can do Rocky vs. Drago. And please, let's do live-action stuff for the first ten posts or so. Also please list the name of the movie and the actors and/or characters. Last edited by Seil; 11-16-2011 at 02:09 AM. |

Yeah, the final fight against the twins in Kiss of the Dragon is my favorite Jet Li one, the one you listed as "Jet Li versus French Aryans", haha. In fact I think it is my favorite Jet Li movie...I've seen them all and have yet to find one that hit me as much as Kiss of the Dragon.
If you want to get outside martial arts, the fight between the Punisher and that Russian dude in the 2004 Punisher movie was pretty good. The part where he picks up the entire toilet and hits the Punisher with it...priceless. Also if you're going to list Tony Jaa movies, you gotta get into The Protector fight scenes. Those were freaking epic.

The lack of Jackie Chan in your post makes me sad. One link is not enough Jackie Chan. Given, a lot of times he has a chair or something as a weapon, but it's all pretty much fists.
Jackie Chan vs Bradley Adams - Gorgeous Jackie Chan gets super drunk Watching older/Chinese Jackie Chan movies is what got me into martial arts movies.

Yeah, Jackie Chan tends to incorporate props into a lot of his fight scenes. I call this ladder fu, in that while he is able to beat off foes with many objects, from brooms to tables to chairs, give Jackie Chan a ladder and he is unstoppable.
Jackie Chan practices Ladder Fu

Unleashed is my favorite Li movie, because there's piano music and Morgan Freeman.
Also, I dun really see a lot of Jackie Chan, just 'cause a lot of his stuff is more comedy based. Like the Rush Hour movies, or the Shanghai Knights stuff... Even his original things - like his sex tape. |

This list is incomplete without the final round of Bloodsport.
As for Bruce Lee, owning up O'Hara in "Enter The Dragon" with ludicrous speed is a good place to start. |

esp the one with all of the red rangers
Any of the few 'Super Sentai' scenes featuring a huge number of power rangers fighting in an all-out war.

I basically wish most fight scenes were like this.
A question: What do people think of the Burly Brawl from The Matrix Reloaded? I know it's in the middle of a fairly crappy movie, but I still think it's a triumph of cinematography, and come on, one person fighting like a bazillion clones is still cool. |
