MLP Movie with 100% more Anthropomorphic Ponies
Quote:
At the moment, I'm not sure how I feel about this movie. I haven't managed to read any of the potential rationals given as to why we had to go from ponies to people. I think this may damage their brand a bit. Anyway, anyone else have thoughts on this? |

Twilight attempting to eat like a pony, the quick shot of some sort of magical climax event with the crown, and the rumor that Sunset Shimmer is another displaced pony, acting on some sinister mission have assuaged my initial fears that this would be a bad movie.
Then again, I suppose it was dumb of me to assume the writers would shut their brains off when the art shift happened. |

I see no big issue with it. I doubt the mirror will become a recurring device in the main show, so I figure the biggest change might be one or two additional recurring characters back in the main show, if that.

Burn.

I'm giving it a chance. There was no change in the show staff, so it's the same crew that works on the show.

(Not to say that little girls DON'T watch the show or buy the toys, but they're a little less... vocal(?) about it.) Quote:

I just never understood the appeal of MLP:FiM to an older fanbase. |

I honestly don't know why anyone ever claimed the show was aimed at anything other than young girls? Like, I only ever watched the first season, but it obviously aims at a young audience. You could make the case that young boys could also watch it I guess. Like, it was certainly tolerable in comparison to other children's shows out there, but I don't think an adult male could ever claim to be the target in any way shape or form.
From what Im seeing this movie is entirely in line with their target audience. I imagine one doesnt hear a whole lot from young girl fans because there's nothing notable about little girls watching a show aimed at little girls? And also they arent as populace on the internet? |

If I recall, Faust intended for the show to be a girl's show that could work against the stigma of girl's shows being vapid or not worth watching. You know, make a show that, while primarily focused towards young girls, could appeal to a wider audience as well. I think she did pretty damn phenomenally at that goal.
So, ultimately, you're right in that older people and males aren't the primary target. And it'd be stupid if they were, because I'd hate for the show to become something that younger girls wouldn't want to watch. There's no need to sacrifice a younger target audience when making the show appeal to older people (see also: Animaniacs, Freakazoid, Pinky And The Brain, Rugrats, etc.) |

I think she certainly made the show accessible from what I've seen especially considering what she had to work with, I just think anyone that isn't a child who really wants to complain about this is silly.
