Caring for a Sparrow Chickling
This may turn into a moot point soon, but I've kinda inadvertantly become caretaker to what I have gathered to be a two day old chipping sparow. My brother and myself have been trying to take care of him, but other than give him water through an eyedropper, we have no idea what to do (my parrents are out tonight). The clencher: we have a cat. So a prolonged period of recovery is virtually impossible due to the fact that keeping the cat and bird seperate has proven an arduous activity.
Any Ornithologists out there that know what these things eat or how to feed it? It's snubbed everything we've tried to give it so far.

This exact same thing happened to me about 7 years ago. Take care of it until morning, then take it to the nearest Animal Shelter/Vet. you should be able to look them up in the phone book.
The Shelter should take it in, or point you to where you can take it. The Vet should be able to give you information on how to care for it in the short term, and then point you to where you can take it... possibly an animal shelter. now that we got that settled, where did you happen to find this sparrow?

Walking, we found it on the sidewalk, being attacked by ants. The only sparrow nearby refused to go near us/it, so we managed to get into my brother's shoe and take it away. We've looked it over and nothing appears broaken. Its certainly too young to fly, and so its hard to see if it has a broken wing or something, but it doesn't seem in too much pain. It is currently asleep.

Well if it was attacked by ants, then you did the right thing.
Like I said, take it to a Vet/Animal shelter. However, you may have to spend a little money if you take it to a vet, so be prepared to open your wallet.

Quite the good samaritan. I've read about what ants do to things bigger than them. It's hideous.

yeah that happened to me too the birds nesting outside our window suddenly booted out all the chicks and didnt let them back in and they were to young to fly. so we would just buy some nightcrawlers mash em then but in in a eardrop thing and fed it to each one. then one day we come to check on the box we had them in and they were gone. they flew away we think due to the lack of feathers and blood.
