I wonder if it's just going to end up being a reattempt at GT with a different plot and characters?

Pretty much my exact response. more then likely this is probably because of how well the movies did (in Japan).
I'm even more shocked that it's Akira that's going to be handling it.

I was like "cool" until I saw its set to take place after GT. If it was set to take place after DBZ and retcon GT from existence I'd be alot more excited

It's set to take place after Z, specifically the Majin Saga. In other words, it happens at a similar time as the Battle of the Gods and Return of F movies. There's actually potential for it to render GT non-canon, since it takes place before the 28th Martial Arts tournament, which is when Uub shows up after the 10 year timeskip at the very end of DBZ.
edit- Here is the article I was reading, which has this full translated statement: Quote:

I'll probably watch it out of curiosity since I've been rewatching DBZ in the form of a clipshow but I don't really expect much out of it in terms of quality.

When you get down to the details of it, DBZ is an anime about people screaming at eachother until one somehow outdoes the other by some arbitrary measure of power where the villains were capable of destroying planets about 3 story arcs ago.

Toriyama didn't want to have series run as long as it did initially. But he was pressured to keep extending the cash cow's life for as long as possible until it became the undead horse we know and 'love'.

Which is why they made DBZ Kai or whatever and cut out all the retarded filler for a much more streamlined story.
GT kinda flopped since Toriyama's involvement was so minimal compared to previous projects and it showed. That being said even though I greatly prefer reading a manga over watching anime any day I'll still give DBSuper a shot. |
