Super Soldiers: Awakening
Date: August 27th, 2157
Location: Top secret government research facility and army base in southern New Mexico. Level B3, inner chamber. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "So, you actually trust those crazy assumptions?" "What assumptions?" "That those...things...they'll be safe." "Captain, we've run all of the tests in the book, even ones not mentioned, twenty or thirty times. They've been green each time. There's no reason to worry. You're such a pessimist." "It's just that...I don't know. Weren't we all against this just a few years ago?" "Opinions change, Captain. And circumstances. In the world that we live in now we need leverage, advantages, "plan B"s. It's our turn to step down and give new ideas a shot. We may not agree with it, and our worries may even be right in the end. But, until then, we have no choice but to wait and see." "Sure, we always have to wait." The captain and female lieutenant stood in the dimly lit metallic observation chamber. They both glanced over at the circle of glass chambers in the center of the room. They let out an inaudible sigh as they heard the hiss of the main door opening behind them. Out of the light emerged an aging scientist. He had greying hair, but still could pass for fifty, highlights and all. His face looked grim. "How are you two today?" They both acknowledged his question with a lie and fell silent. "Okay then." He walked over to a line of computers situated in front of the capsules. His strokes of the keyboard awakened the screens as he ripped through password after password to arrive at a red and blue screen with the word "initiate" written across a small grey button. At that moment, the captain and lieutenant were surprised to witness yet more scientists pour through the security door. They varied in ages and stature. The first scientist looked towards the group and addressed them. "I wish I had something witty and memorable to say before something as momentous as this. But, I guess we'll have to leave that to the guests of honor." He slid the cursor over the button and left-clicked.

She dreamed, like she always did. Dreams of cold, dark spaces. Dreams of entities caked in blackness staring on her. Dreams of never knowing what sight was. Everything was blackness...until now. Sounds. Light. Both of them from unknown sources. Then the warmth came. She reached out to it invitingly, then pulled back because it was too loud, too bright, and too hot for her to get closer to it. But it got closer to her. It reached for her, and try as she might, she couldn't escape. Everything was fuzzy. Brightness resonated. She swayed between the realm of the subconscious and reality, but knew that she could not go back to the darkness. She slowly began to awaken.

He had been dreaming of worlds to go, to see, to feel. Yet all he could do was just see, that was the bad thing about dreaming. He knew he would not have to wait long, he knew he would be awakened, at it looked like his time is starting to come. He heard a sound, one that told him he knew he was not in a dream. He started to see something, like a light of sorts. "This is definitly no dream" He whispered. Yet something puzzled him. How did he know all this?

Raith also begins to stir, prodded into wakefulness by more than the stimulants injected to finally bring him to true consciousness. In something like dreams he vaguely knew of all that had happened to him before this but he didn't understand what it meant, he could barely even think in this state. He did not know how long he had dwelled in this twilight state, dimly aware of the other minds enclosed in other observation units. But now there were new minds, watchful presences with a cocktail of emotions running through them. A mix of fear and expectation. Slowly, for the first time ever, he begins to open his eyes.

She tried to open her eyes, but the bright forced her to shut them completely. She was compelled to lash out at the light. To silence it. Suddenly, feeling in her left arm allowed her to move it.
"Agh?!" She said without thinking, moving her left hand before her eyes, the palm exposed and outward. The tattoo revealed her nature before all that stood before the bed she had slept in for so long. How long? She dug into her mind, but couldn't remember. In fact, a lot of questions that suddenly appeared in her head...she simply didn't have answers for. Where was she? Who was she? What was her birthday? What about family? And friends? She forced herself to sit up and bowed her head to block out the bright light, still covering her eyes with her left hand. As the light stopped stinging and the sudden headache and lightheaded feeling begin to grow smaller, she slowly opened her eyes. |

The head scientist watched closely over the computer monitors as they began to register heart rate, blood pressure, and a million other things that the captain didn't even attempt to understand. The other scientists that formed the audience fidgeted. "Shouldn't be long now." He did a double take and snapped back to a monitor as the symbols and lines on it began to change. The group jumped at the muffled sound of a scream coming from somewhere inside the capsules.
The head scientist walked over to the origin of the voice and stopped at capsule #1. Inside was a teenage girl, a naked teenage girl, but this didn't bother the scientist. To him, they all had been like sons and daughters. He saw that her brilliant green eyes were already open. He felt like he was waking his own son up for school. But, he remembered, those days are long gone. "Open this one." The group watching gasped. "I want this one open. Ms. Lonnquist, would you mind?" The leiutenant walked over to the computer line. "What do I do?" "Type in the command prompt 'op 1'. The leiutenant did as she was told and the glass barrier lifted off of the capsule. The scientist noticed that the inside was more lush than he had expected. All sides were padded with a bright pink foam of some sort. He thought to himself that he wouldn't mind sleeping in that for nineteen years. His attention turned towards the human inside. He let out a short laugh. "Wake up. It's time for...school."

As she began to realized that she was in a capsule of some sorts, it opened for her, steam spilling out across the floor. She shook her head quickly to jar her mind completely awake, her bright green hair flapping around her neck. She had it done in two ponytails with black scrunchies. Her eyes were unfocused. She could barely make it out, but there appeared to be very small markings on many places. Whatever had made them...she couldn't tell and didn't really care.
"Mmmmphmmm..." Her breath was audible and she found the strength in her legs to slowly climb out. As she touched the damp floor, her knees gave in and she toppled out of the capsule, embracing the floor unceremoniously. She opened her eyes wider as the light stopped biting into her view and got to her hands and knees, shaking her head again. Swaying, she stood up and tried to take in the scenery. |

Inside another capsule a man was stirring. He woke up, blind and shocked, then slowly he regained his sight. He tried to remember anything but he could only think of a name, Runner. He assumed it was meant for him. Panic washed over him when he realized he was enclosed in a small capsule. He screamed and struggled to get out. Electricity ran through his body. He could see it on his hand. Then he blacked out right before the capsule opened, spilling him onto the ground.

"Oh! Captain, if you wouldn't mind."
"Sure." The captain approached the man who had just spilled onto the floor. He had long black hair that covered his face as he fell. The captain put his arm over his head and lifted the body. He walked over to a row of chairs set up in front of the capsules and sat the man as upright as he could. His head bent over his body as he was let go. "He'll be fine." The head scientist looked again over at the monitors. "Looks like we've got another one coming through."

Shruikan woke up, his thoughts were blurry. When his thoughts cleared he opened his eyes and looked around the room through the glass, wait, glass? He suddenly realized he was in a small capsule and tried franticly (sp?) to get out, ramming the glass. But, it proved to hard for him.
Suddenly, the glass slid open, and a scientist stepped into the room. It took a few minutes for Shruikan's eyes to adjust to the light. "Good, your up." the scientist spoke in a deep voice. "Time for your training" The scientist led him to a room marked "The classroom". They stepped inside. "Time to begin. Now, focus your energies....." A FEW HOURS LATER.... Shruikan finished his training as a barrel burst into flames. He felt energy flowing through his body. "Good, now we'll get you you're equipment" the scientist said. He walked out the door and started down the hall. Last edited by Sparda!; 11-30-2004 at 04:27 PM. |
