Concerning reputation.
Alright listen up, twerps.
Some of you have been giving negative rep because you don't like someone. We know you do it. We know who you are. We are completely aware of what is happening and we don't like it. If you don't like someone, keep it to your god damn self. Do not bring your petty, childish bullshit onto the forums and make other people's lives worse. Do not use your reputation comments to make others feel bad. Yes, we know exactly who gives what rep to which user, we also know the reasons (such as "euthanizing" -- you know who you are). The reputation is a system geared towards posts and the user's (get this) actual reputation. Not your little personal feud against whomever didn't love you (I bet you know who you are, too) or acts like a dork, noob, whatever you want to call it. People are people. Don't judge them, at least don't judge them at this forum. If it does not stop, if these negative rep things given for no reason other than personal satisfaction and hurting someone's feelings don't end, then your existence at NPF will - REGARDLESS of how long you have been here. I don't give a fuck if you were the first person after Kurosen to sign up at ezboard or if you are the soul king James Brown himself. It stops. The end. Almost. Edited -- for those of you whom confessed, or outright told a mod what you did, thank you for showing some balls. But don't expect a whole lot of leniency. This has been a subject of discussion between the mods for a while now and it's getting very old.

What's the purpose of having negative rep then? When is it acceptable to give negative rep? Why not only make it possible to give positive rep.

If a post is bad or something? Use it for it's intended purposes, not to merely state you dislike a person. "I don't like you, so I'm giving you negative rep on something completely unrelated." "You totally rejected me, so here's some negative rep." Or using it as an anonymous way to flame people. Durr, flaming is against the friggin rules. People shouldn't think they can get away with it just because it's done in rep.
That's bullshit. I have half a mind to call out each and every person who does it, by name. I might do if it continues.

If it looks like I did anything of the kind, please tell me before doing anything drastic. I've begun (ab)using the Rep feature recently and while I really don't remember doing anything so petty (while using negative rep, that is, I'm sure my positive rep has been plenty petty), it's always possible.
It doesn't sound like me, though.

So negative rep is given to "bad" posts?
The reason you dislike a person, and a person's post could be the same. What are reasons that you can deem a post bad? Bad spelling and grammar? Poor content? Wrong forum? I'm asking these questions for the benefit of everyone.

The revolution will be memed!

The point is the post realy being bad. Not if the POSTER is bad! Everyone can use some common sence to deside which POST is actually bad.
Just my two cents. I hope I don't sound too much like I'm playing a mod or something like that.

I admit it! I gave the posirep for that post about the cottage cheese and the two biscuits plotting to take over the world!
on a more serious note, how low has the forum as a whole sunk that this actually needs to be addressed? I joined this forum because I liked the comic, but I stayed because most of the people on here act in a mature manner, and when they don't, they make certain to announce the immaturity of said action so that others know that it is merely a joke. to have this be a problem here, of all places, deeply saddens me

Spam, for example. If someone posts and doesn't contribute anything. Or if somebody's anal about things like sprite resizing. What's not a good reason is taking any real or imagined "real life" dislikings onto the forum, or picking on someone every chance you get, including in rep. Especially not when you're anonymously flaming the person in the process.
EDIT: Osterbaum, that's exactly it. Good stuff. Newb, that's what I've been wondering too. |

I, myself, feel there is no need for negative reputation. You get enough of that from users actual posts if you've done something wrong/not to the general standard. Yet positive reputation is usually given out if you've done something good, for something well said, something well received.
I vote we abolish negative rep! Down with Shiney! (Ahem.)

I concur with RaiRai. Even though I can see why having a neg-rep button could be a good thing, I wouldn't doubt the chances that a multiple-offender be eventually banned anway. Also, the button can be easily abused and doesn't really provide any information of great importance to the user. I too vote against the negative rep.
Hey, I got a crazy idea! Let's have a poll about it!
