This Clay Earth: sign up
We like to think the world is cold, unmoving. That we see all that there is. We believe in the rules, physics, chemistry, science. We believe that these things are independent of belief.
We are wrong. What if I were to tell you anything is possible? would you write me off as a loonatic, a simpleton perhaps? Reality is defined by what we believe, there are gods, angels and demons, there are ghosts and little green men. There are mythical creatures behind the 7-11. But none of these things are quite so dangerous as man. What will you do now? You've stumbled onto Pandora's box. A brief moment of insight and now the world is made from play-doh, yours to mold as you wish. Its a lot of responsibility, don't you think? Its a good thing there are things out there to help you, isn't it? ............................................. Hello, and welcome to my RP! The setting is modern day, right here, right now. The gist is this: the world is defined by belief, a consensus, the old ways are dying and science is the new god. You were just another regular person, before the supernatural knocked on your door. Your character is recently awakened into this surreal landscape of old gods and bewildering ghosts. Its not just anyone who gets to see, and people like your character are in high demand. There are many entities which would love to recruit you, or destroy you dependent on your choices. The worlds a little more dangerous now, a little more insane, and if your heads in the right place... a whole lot more fun. here is what you need as far as a character goes: Name: everybodies got one, and please, make it a normal name. Anyone who calls themself "Nightbringer XXX" or any such nonsense will be asked to change. Age: how long have you been hanging around? lower end 16, top end 35. little kids and old people scare me. :p height, weight: your physical parameters. appearance: what your character looks like, as well as usual styles of dress. Don't go overboard describing one outfit, this is the real world, nobody walks around wearing the same thing everyday (unless they don't have any other clothes, like a bum or something) Personality: what does the character act like in general? Is he whiney, stalwart, gregarious? What makes them tick, and what lights their fire, so to speak. history: a brief (or not so brief, whatever you feel like writing) description of your characters' life before the story begins. If you put unknown, I'm going to cry, and then ask you to change it. :p and now, what you've all been waiting for, the superpowers! Here's how it goes, as I previously mentioned, reality exists dependent on a consensus. Think of it as everyone in the world owning stock in whats real, they all have a vote to cast that weighs as much as how many shares they own. Your average person might hold one or two, you've got your hands on thousands, and your only getting more as the days go by. What does this mean? You can change reality with the power of your mind. Your character is relatively new at this though, so they won't be able to make too drastic a change. I'll use levels of difficulty to describe effects. easy: minor changes that no one would notice. turning a stoplight green, tripping someone as they walk down the street. Making it so pigeons can't shit all over your car. Basicaly, if it could have happened anyways and doesn't involve messing with fate too much, its easy. moderate: these powers either change the flow of destiny or create effects which would be considered out of the ordinary. Causing an all star hitter to strike out when they are facing a pitcher with the worst ERA in the majors. Making a penguin do the Samba. Bending an iron bar or various forms of telekinesis. hard: manhandling destiny or creating truly supernatural efects that no one would believe. Causing a competent business man to go broke, creating a fireball from thin air. teleporting. turning a penguin into a ninja assasin. anything that someone would look at and go "no way!" extreme: something which tears instead of bends the fabric of reality. these powers are highly dangerous and often produce startling results. This is the level at which demons are summoned and gods are entreated. Examples might include causing a building to vanish or erasing someone from history. the levels of difficulty represent the strain on a persons mind the power takes. The consensus wants to remain stagnant, and toying with it drains not only your will, but your sanity. Too much power usage over a short period of time and you might find yourself locked up in the loony bin, or bleeding through your ears. as a note, this rp borrowed heavily from several White Wolf games (Mage and Exalted mostly) but its not a white wolf game. The Mythos, the milieu, the general attitude will be different, and dependent on the players. Any questions you might have are welcome. sign ups will end after about six people, just to forewarn. Reserving a spot here, I'll edit as soon as I get my character made.
EDIT: Here we go! Name: Nick Granger Age: 24 height, weight: 5'11", 160 lbs. appearance: Dark blonde hair, and hazel eyes (Or so it seems... he just changes the color of his eyes to whatever he feels like from day to day), decnetly tanned skin. Nick keeps his outfits low profile, basically just an assortment of jeans and t-shirts, though he has a gold Rolex watch and a pair of flashy sunglasses (But not flamboyant a la Elton John, ya dig? :p). Personality: Nick is very easy going, and loves fun. Not really a man of faith, isn't a fan of bible thumpers. If there's money to be had, he's there, and he almost always wins it. Confident almost to the point of arrogance, when it comes to betting and gambling. history: Born into a fairly wealthy family, his childhood was uneventful. Did well in school, played a few sports, had good friends, etc. etc. At some point in high school is when he was awoken to the truth of reality. However, he didn't - and still doesn't - take it seriously. After high school, he moved out, and went to Las Vegas, where he has become very rich through gambling, and, as a result, has been banned from several casinos. He's made sure to not get banned from other casinos since then, though. He lives in a very nice house in the suburbs of Las Vegas. He's been visited by a few angels and demons, but he always waves them away. Quote: It's all about the money, baby!

Name: Daniel Savage
Age: 19 Height: 5'4" Weight: 120 lbs. Appearance: Clothes are often torn or messed up in some way. Wears black leather coats/vests, and usually a simple T-Shirt. Hair is wild and black. Personality: Daniel is very cocksure, especially since realizing his powers. He is rather easy going and likes to play tricks on others. Although he does experience it, he never shows fear, hinderance, or doubt. He has no real goal in life that lasts for longer than 10 minutes and is often on the move. History: Daniel grew up in a small rural area. He didn't have friends so much as a fanbase for his daring and trickery. Often he got into trouble with the law, but he's never actually been caught. After high school, he went to [insert name of city this takes place in] to attend college, more under his parents wishes than his own. Awakening: Daniel realized his powers doing what he did best: being an idiot. During a family vacation several years ago, he viewed a tightrope walker performing her deadly feat of balance and thought, "I've got to try that." During the night, he slipped out out the hotel room and dared to cross the rope. After only a few steps, he soon lost balance and plumetted several stories. Overwhelming adrenaline took over as he willed for a way to stop, thinking as hard as he could to save his ass. He came closer and closer to the pavement and suddenly stopped. Daniel had willed the forces to stop his decent, leaving him only inches off the ground. From then on, he continued to train the abilities he possesed. How's that? EDIT: Added Awakening story Last edited by VA_Ninja; 02-27-2005 at 03:26 PM. |

ixnay on the insane ay, ok?
One of the objects of this game is avoid insanity, it sort of takes the risk out when you're already there, don't you think? Also, crazy people typicly have trouble operating in groups composed of relatively sane people. so, in closing, no. Get yourself uncrazied and we'll talk. VA: Good bio! The city is... Las Vegas! So I guess he's going to UNLV. the initial setting will probably change as the story progresses, I just know a lot about Vegas, and it seems like it would be a hotbed of supernatural activity. Data is Turned On

Name: Janet Weir
Age: 28 Height, Weight: 5'9" 160 lbs Appearance: A taste for unisex business clothes: dark blouses, vests and pants; shirts and ties. Otherwise she has been known to wear neat jeans in more casual moments. Personality: Janet Weir can hardly be called rational, but a serene demeanor seems permanently with her, whatever particular fatalistic attitude she assumes at any given moment. Her awakening has made her less integrally passive and a great deal more optimistic, but that limitless font of confidence in herself and the principles she sees as protecting the universe has not given her any ability to judge difficulties and situations any better. Her old natural sense of imminent doom hasn't disappeared in the least in her new world view and can easily returned to the fore at any moment if the right set of circumstances come into place. She still doesn't have much belief in the efficiency of merely human actions, but now she sees new forces at work and herself, through her powers, as part of them. Partly out of this conception, she considers others haughtily and tends to keep her distances in many ways, altough this doesn't keep her from being communicative, however cryptic this communication might be. History: Born in Lewiston, Idaho, in an atheistic family. Moved to Idaho Falls when she was 18 in the pursuit of a lukewarm relationship. There, she studied the History of the Arts and Ancient Civilizations. At 22, she travelled south to Las Vegas to come work for the Luxor Casino, and just one year later, she was stranded in the desert for three days. An extended vacation from her work followed her return to the city, during which she travelled to Egypt to try and form her newfound worldview. Maintaining contact with Egypt, she passed the last four years expanding upon her discovery while working in Las Vegas.

Okay, quick question.
Any chance that, kind of like what Constantine does, we don't fight stuff head on but instead handily create circumstances and use old spells and relics that dramatically help us? I.E. Instead of fighting a demon, we pull out some old cross and use it for a quick spell with dispells a demon? P.S. I am reserving.

wow SS, you are very insightful!
Constantine the movie (which I just saw in Hong Kong) is also a big influence on this RP, I want to take it in more of an arcane, pseudo religious direction. So yes, you are correct in your assumption SS. And a damn good guess I might add! |

Yayuh! Name: Greg Richards Age: 23 height, weight: 5'11" and 140lbs (of MUSCLE) appearance: Usually, he'll have a kind of ratty trench-coat, or a leather jacket on. Past that, almost always a business shirt, though he has been known to use t-shirts, and jeans of different colors. He's bald, and tanned, as well as muscled enough that most people will think twice about going after him. Personality: Greg is a passive personality. He never has huge outburts, and when confronted extremely supernatural, his reaction is normally one of stun instead of fear. history: Long story short, wanted to be a cop, couldn't, is now a Private Detective. Has his own modified catholic beliefs and personally believes that humans are making their world circle the drain. And he hates smokers.
